People against everything

13 April, 2008 · 4 Comments

I’ve always found perennial protesters irritating.  I’ve always assumed that people against everything are more interested in their own moral superiority than whatever cause or injustice they’re protesting about.

Wellingtonian Valerie Morse reinforces this stereotype for me. Most of her protesting had just been a tiresome protest diva act, which hit rock bottom by disrupting a dawn service. Neither understanding nor caring how inappropriate and counterproductive this was demonstrates arrogance and/or stupidity.

While the firearms charges against her will further highlight these traits, yesterday’s antics confirm her as childish and uncouth.

Spitting in your mid 30s – that’s just lame.

    “disrupting a dawn service… arrogance and/or stupidity.”
Good grief! Your total lack of context in regards to this demonstrates a narrow minded view that is typically reflected in our local newsrooms to sell papers and garner TV ratings. As you obviously ignorant to the context of the protest your thoughts as to whether it is was inappropriate or counterproductive would be no more than an uninformed opinion…

Gosh Mike, you sound very angry. Perhaps you should have had a sit down and a cup of tea before putting fingers to keyboard. Before judging me ignorant and narrow minded you might have considered I may simply disagree with the political statement that Morse tried to make or was offended by her antics. Personally I find the call to remove the NZ military for Timor and the Solomons just plain stupid.

Whatever Val and friends considered the context of the protest that doesn’t alter the context of a dawn service for the people attending it as a commenmoration. The intended context of action doesn’t justify its means.

The outrage, condemnation and the offence taken was inevitable and entirely foreseeable. To have carried out the protest anyway was stupid and/or arrogant. Even if I am ignorant that fact remains.
