While it’s been a busy time in 100 Word land recently, there was an interesting diversion in the back yard yesterday – our first Tui.
With the sanctuary and all the possum poisoning in the Town Belt during the past few years, Tuis seem to be a lot more common place in central Wellington. All we need now to see more native birds is more native trees for them to feed off. Perhaps the council could see the wisdom of planting something other than olive trees round Mt Vic and those new palm trees at the hospital are just silly – Wellington’s not Fiji!
While visiting the hospital the other day I felt the need for a sugar/caffeine boost. Unfortunately sugary snacks have been purged from the cafeteria and vending machines to prevent any more lard accumulating on the rear ends of already well upholstered posteriors.
I’m happy to get randomly breath tested to catch drunk drivers. I don’t mind not being able to buy a handgun at the supermarket. But it really grates to have my treats taken away because some people are too lazy to take the stairs or so daft they eat as much as a hippo.
Yes. I agree you are entitled to your opinion. I also agree that my past statements are just my opinion.
I contend, however, that your opinion that Sensing Murder is something other than bullshit is a demonstration of your credulity. Please note there’s no hard evidence to support your opinion anywhere. Also note that whenever psychics are tested they end up looking like snake oil salesmen or the deluded.
As for my opinion that Sensing Murder is bullshit, it is based on nothing more than the fact that this nonsense consistently fails to prove itself under the most basic scrutiny.
The evolution deniers have had a good few weeks. Idiot/Savant notes Turkish creationists have found an excuse to block Dawkins’ webiste. There’s Sarah Palin’s dinosaurs-walked-humans view, but that’s no worse than the current Oval Office situation.
Most troubling for me is Professor Michael Reiss’ resignation from the Royal Society. While what he said was open to misrepresentation his basic points are little more than a proposal for effectively teaching science. Unfortunately Reiss’ resignation will no doubt be an opportunity for religious fundamentalists to pretend it is they who want an honest debate on the science.
Unfortunately there were no flags burnt or otherwise outside Government House. Perhaps, they meant the other Government House in Auckland. Surely you wouldn’t go to all the trouble of putting out a press release and then not following through.
The other part of my outing was much more successful. The rice burger with pork with a side of pan-fried dumplings were great!
With Che setting up his website on how to be a tight-wad, I thought I’d celebrate a decade of gluttony. A habit I’ve acquired is collecting restaurant’s and cafe’s business cards. It can be handy when someone asks for a recommendation and the pile of cards serves as a memory prompt. Today’s count (I was trying to tidy up but became waylaid) totalled 168 cards for Wellington alone – I’ve maybe another 80ish from elsewhere.
