Having given the Republic of New Zealand Party some stick for not debating their key cause, I thought I’d write a post when they did. But their press release from Friday has been removed from Scoop and I’ve had to resort to Google’s cache function.
One hopes this release has been buried as a quality control measure. Calling Kiwis forelock jerkers and snoozers isn’t the best way to win friends and influence people. Their proposal to have a referendum on setting up a committee to draft a new constitution seems an odd process, would people vote for a sight-unseen republic?

Dawkins does go on a bit. To summarise; the concept of intelligent design cannot be true because it is self contradictory.
If the universe is too complex to have occurred without being deliberately designed, then there must be a complex designer. For this designer to exist without another designer it must be simple or has just always existed. The first reason can’t be true given the universe’s complexity and if the second is possible then a designer is simply not required because this complex universe could too have just always existed (or it’s the FSM… OK Dawkins didn’t say that).
